KEITH THOMAS
Born and raised in Conyers, Ga, Keith Thomas relocated to Nasvhille, TN in 1979 as Ronnie Milsap’s first staff songwriter. After writing for Ronnie for approximately a year and a half, Keith accepted an offer as a staff writer and producer for Word Records, where he garnered over 20 #1 records during his 6 year tenure. In 1987, Keith established a new production company, Yellow Elephant music, which was more focused on pop and R&B.
Keith discovered and was responsible for signing Bebe & Cece Winans to Sparrow Records & Capitol Records. Through the Winans, Keith met David Sonenberg who would manage Keith’s career throughout the later part of the 80s and 90s up until 2003. In 1991, Keith enjoyed his first pop hit Baby Baby, which he co-wrote with the legendary Amy Grant. Throughout the 90s, he became not only staff writer but staff producer/A&R for Sony Music. During the 90s, Keith produced the following artists in addition to Amy Grant... Vanessa Williams (Save The Best For Last, Colors Of The Wind), James Ingram, Luther Vandross, Wynonna Judd, Faith Hill, Barbra Streisand, 98o, Selena (Wrote and produced I Could Fall In Love), Brian McKnight, Bebe & Cece Winans, Gladys Knight, Trisha Yearwood, Jon Secada, Michael Bolton and many others. He has also produced music for motion picture soundtracks as well such as, Pocahontas, Speed 2, The Mirror Has Two Faces, First Wives Club, The Mask and 6 Seconds among others.
Recent projects include, Heather Headley, Danny Gokey and he continues to collaborate with Amy Grant. In 2018, Keith was part of a team of creators to help build a music library for Facebook, which has kept him busy during the past several years as well as artist development.
In 2019, Keith signed and developed Layla Tucker, Tanya Tucker’s 19 year old daughter, who would later sign her first recording contract with Fantasy Records.
Keith is currently working on a new library and has two developing artists. Most recently is the granddaughter of Englebert Humperdinck.
In December of 2022, Keith joined his longtime friend and co-creator Amy Grant in Washington DC to celebrate her achievement at The Kennedy Honors. The following week Keith traveled to New York to attend the Whitney Houston Premiere of the motion picture, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, for which he co-wrote the end credits song, Don’t Cry For Me.
